Sherry and I (both CBJs) would be interested in judging if there is room at the judges table and you would have us.

Love to add you two to the tables.

This judging will be in an open setting and may include some audience questions with a "Master of Ceremonies" leading the judging.
Standard KCBS style scoring will be used.

Hi Tracy, I just had a few questions. Are we getting 5 or 9 racks of ribs. Ive seen both numbers tossed around so I'm not sure. Gates open at 6am and I understand we get the ribs at 7am. Do you know if they will be pre-trimmed racks or will we have to do the whole trimming ourselves? Just seems with a 1pm turn in time, trimming/prepping 9 racks we might be pressed for time. Thanks.

Funny you should ask that question Carlos. I just asked for exactly that information myself from Coach Turner and his BBQ event partner. As soon as I get the information myself or someone else will post that for everyone.

Awesome...that sounds interesting. So open setting as in up on a stage and giving commentary to the audience as we go? Is it open format where everyone knows who's entry is being judged?

It is only 5 racks expected to be cooked by the teams for the competition and for pre-sale rack orders. I'll know more later this afternoon.

Adam,

Haven't got the whole idea finalized yet, still a bit fluid. But Ben will be the Master of Ceremonies, we're hoping to have two tables of judges, we will still have double blind judging for the judges, but the teams will know when their box goes on stage for judging. Still working on the timing and specific details. Should be a fun way to include the audience a bit more in seeing the judging and possibly asking questions of Ben and/or the judges. The judges won't be required to speak about each entry, only if asked by the MC or the audience.

Something along those lines... hope that helps!

Very helpful, thank you. I have always wanted to gorge myself on BBQ in front of a football stadium full of fans, so this really is a bucket list item for me! ;)

On wiki it says
Turn in begins at 1
Is there different times for judges and pc turn ins?
Or do we turn in 2 boxes at 1?

Ryan,

Turn-in times are fluid at this time. Still tweaking (not twurking) the details, including the times. We should have it all nailed down next week.

But, YES, you will have two different turn-in boxes with a minimum of 6 visible ribs each.
