Congrats to Steve for the Pitcrew GC and Smitty for the Loot and Booty RGC. It was actually a very nice event despite the thunder/hail storms on Friday. Thanks to Simply Marvelous for your great rubs, support and shade. A big shout out to BPS for words of wisdom and more great rubs.

I am looking forward to Dana Point. I am working on a game plan for my chicken and hope a month of troubleshooting will help.

I just thought I'd give a shout out to Merl & Carol Whitebook who stepped up on very short notice, and at some inconvenience to their personal plans, to rep this contest when the Lopps became unavailable, and did a fine job.

Merl made a point at the judges' meeting of thanking Henry for the expansion of BBQ contests in SoCal the past several years, and pointed out that the organizers are as necessary as the teams and judges. But there are four, not three, legs to this table, and the reps are the ones who glue it all together. Thanks!

I just posted Steve Wilson's contest review of Acorn. Please read it. I think it is my favorite Wilson article so far. He gives you a good sense of what it was like. Sounds typical of our contests in California. Friendly camaraderie, amazement, smiles. Nice job Steve and thanks for those who helped out with the rain. If anyone has a photo of Steve, I'd love to get a copy,. Best of luck to you traveling to Mesquite. Be safe.

Ardith sent me these two photos which pretty much verifies Steve Wilson's article about the weather conditions at Campo. But the smiles on Dave Malone and Tom Moore also verify that BBQ people know how to have a good time no matter what!

Congratulations to The Pit Crew, Loot n Booty, and Lady of Q! Wow, solo cooks! I have a ton of respect for pitmasters who turn in 4 comp meats on time flying solo and still take top honors!! And with inclement weather to boot!

We learned that disposable cutting board make good substitutes for squeegees. Congrats to all the teams who walked. Thanks to the Golden Acorn casino for providing each team member free play. Although unlucky at the contest, I came away with enough from the casino to pay for the two meats I cooked and gas money.
