Judges:

If you would please go to this site to sign up and judge any Arlieque Event Cookoffs.

www.judgebbq.com/Arlieque/

Others will be added as I get the forms available. The West Coast BBQ Classic is up now for judges. This is for judging only.

Instead of downloading a registration form and mailing back to me or emailing back you will now do it all online. This is my site for judges and not shared with anyone. You will be locked in as soon as I turn that on and your registration is dated so the sooner you apply the better. You are locked in by date and if you are a CBJ. You will then be able to check to see if you are locked in which you can then make plans for travel etc. I will be adding other events as they are available and this should make your judging experience better. You will be able to see maps and hotel discounts etc as they are posted. You will also see a judging phone number to call the day of the event if for some reason you are unavailable to make it.

Thank you for judging my events and I will see you soon.

Arlie, this is a great tool..... how do I go about creating an account here? I clicked on the link above but it won't let me go to learn more about it when I click on it... it only allows me to go to your link and the Rocky Mountain one... Please help.. Thanks

The software was discussed early this year in the judges forum, and surprisingly it was presented to CBBQA prior, but was never implemented because the promoters here wouldn't use it. Here is a good quote from the topic here http://www.cbbqa.org...&hl=rmbbqa&st=0

Kevin Keeling, who developed the RMBBQA Judge's Liaison Program did talk to the CBBQA BOD at one point. From my conversation with Kevin, I understand that organizers won't use the system and that is why it is not implemented here. It is a very cool bit of software and the positioning system does weed out judges with a history of no-shows. I'm not sure if there can be a detractor for judges who knowingly go off KCBS rules repeatedly, but it is possible to adjust the algorithm I'm sure. If a specific judge is repeatedly spoken with regarding their scoring, the rep can let CBBQA know and a "penalty" can be put in place so that person is lower down the lock-in list.

As mentioned before the only thing really missing is a "No Show" option that would allow promoters to give a -1 point for every no show. Or pulling out of a comp because you can't fill your cooler.

Let's not forget that KCBS is in beta testing with a new scoring system that provides a lot of feedback on various aspects of judging. Using JLP as a judges sign-up process doesn't (as far as I know) conflict with that new software. It's a useful tool for judges and the promotors who choose to use it for signups. From a promotor's perspective, it automates what is basically a clerical function that is pure overhead.
JLP has a bunch of other capabilities - for example, as a judge checks in, it can assign the judge to a table based on experience. Personally, I like the Southwest lineup that I've seen both K&K and Merl and Carol Whitebook use. It's easier, works well, takes very little time, and (best of all) requires absolutely no programmer support. Also, my experience is that the KCBS reps know most of the judges in their area pretty well. They know a lot about who judges, how they judge, whether they play well with others, etc. A judges' database and supporting programming will probably never have that body of knowledge and the ability to utilize it effectively.

My judges program is based on signing up the judges only. The reps will still do there thing as placing of judges. What works in Colorado doesnt work in other areas unless someone comes from the program to do the seating.

David,

I'm glad you pointed out the use of the system by promoters (I'll use organizers). CBBQA does not promote any contests and has no need for the system unless/until CBBQA starts organizing contests. It is up to individual organizers to use whatever works for them.

Now, back to the topic of the Long Beach contests please.

Entry for teams will be out soon. Will we have 80 teams? I have 48 spots now and they might hold me to thst but will try and see if we can expand to the parking lot toward the Queen Mary!
