Anyone here any updates on this event? Seems like it stalled as Anna and I both signed up to judge about 6 weeks ago.
A month ago we received confirmations that we would judge, but assignments would be given 2 weeks later.
Well 2 weeks later another follow up email said assignments would be sent in the next 2 weeks. Those 2 weeks have passed and still nothing with 4 weeks to go?

I received 2 emails accepting me as a judge. Each time confirming that the final assignments would be coming in a week or in a couple of days. I never got the paperwork or any further info on the contest. I'm sure it's going to happen, but a bit leery of the organization of it all. Seems like an awful big event with a lot of things going on at the same time in different places.

I spoke with the promotion management company this morning. They are a bit overwhelmed, but they seem to have things under control. If you have been accepted as a judge, you are assured of judging the BBQ portion. They would like to assign KCBS judges to some of the other areas as well. They are still working on judging placement for the the sides and non BBQ categories. The primary coordinator (Casey Taylor Johns) is at the World Chili Competition this week (they manage this event as well) but is responding to email. Her cell phone is 901-240-7286 and she welcomes any concerned judges' calls. Wayne Lohman is the WFC Competition Coordinator and will be working with a team on judging placements. I suspect we will receive assignments next week, but they did not say that. When I hear from Wayne I'll update this post.

Frank, thanks for the info. I actually received a call directly from Wayne Sunday confirming that I will be at least judging the BBQ portion, but may also be asked to judge others as well. The e-mail updates are great, but they put in a firm day of confirmation when they will let you know and when that day comes and goes I start to get concerned since I already booked a room for all 4 days.

Abel - The first year for an event this size and complexity is often a little ragged around the edges. It makes it difficult for us volunteers to plan without sufficient advance notice. I received an email covering only the BBQ piece today. At this point I'm only available for Friday. Hopefully next year will be better. See you there!
