My favorite last year? The custom jobs at the Bay BBQ Championships in Oakland.

I actually like the idea of a trophy for the winner that gets passed on from year to year sort of like rivalry games in college football.

Brentwood PAL is pleased to announce we have finally completed the contract with Continental Real estate, the owner of the Streets of Brentwood. Given the success of last years event there were many items to be worked on. Continental HQ is in Cleveland which added time. The good news is that this year event is going to be bigger and better. We LEARNED a bunch of stuff last year and we appreciated both the patience and support of the CBBQA.
That said, Monday we received official word from KCBS as to our sanctioning. This years Brentwood PAL presents the "2nd Annual Blues, Brews & BBQs" at the Streets of Brentwood. The event will be held Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, May 26th and 27th. This is a double state championship and we have increased the prize money to $9200 each day for a total of $18,400.
The car show is back. The kids free game area will be in full force. It is our plan to add a beer contest to this year festivities.
The Saturday headliner is already booked, http://www.joeyfender.com and Sierra Neveda is again the lead brewer for the event. They have a 65' 18 wheel instant beer garden with retractable awning and every beer thay make available on tap. We are going to park it out with the teams and make it a focal point for the weekend.
The event websites have been updated and can be found at http://www.palbbq.net The event entry forms are on http://www.palbbq.com

The most asked question I am getting is about the double event and what are the options.
The venue required us to have a two day event. That is why, this year, the BBB is a double event. We really had no choice. Our downtown is still under construction and not available until 2013 so "The Streets of Brentwood" is our only option for 2012 and they required a two day event. For those teams that were there last year, 31 teams in 2011, everyone knows what an AWESOME location the "Streets of Brentwood" are. The music, car show, kids zone, beer garden all worked well and this year will be better. We learned a bunch during our first year, while raising nearly $20,000 for at risk kids in our community.
How did that happen? Because of our teams. We thanked then and we thank them now. My job is to put on the best darn show and make sure everyone walks away happy. We have dozens of volunteers working on this years event with excitement for what is to be a long running Memorial Day weekend BBQ tradition.
That said Brentwood PAL is allowed to offer a one day competition specifically for smaller teams or teams on a budget. However, that day is Sunday. We are offering a really good deal and you can arrive Friday or Saturday. Whatever works for you.
