Looking forward to the comp. Does anybody know if there will be PC at this contest? Also, where would I find the rules for the dessert category, just in case we decide to really challenge ourselves.

It is a little frustrating to see a ToY event added 5 weeks before the event.

Even more frustrating would be if it was not added at all as a TOY event.

Anyone know the space sizes?

For you, a 10'x10' with a light pole in the corner...LOL

Not sure if there is a timeline as to how far out a contest must be to apply for TOY status.

Lengthy discussion on this at last nights BOD meeting.

Must: RSVP

I listened to all of that but all they talked about was whether or not the promoter should pay $50 or $150. There was no discussion about whether or not the contest should or should not be sanctioned, just how much they had to pay. The ToY rules seem to imply that you must apply 45 days prior, but with monthly board meetings to approve that means an event could be approved with less than 30 days notice. There is no wording that says how far in advance ToY must be applied for.

In a situation where you have to travel a significant distance, take off additional time at work to attend and budget for the cost of distant contests, short notice makes for a tough situation. When you are in a ToY race where even a single point could make a huge difference, it is frustrating to say the least. As everyone knows, with the current system you "have to travel". I have been doing that, but the toll has been high and adding contests at this point with only a few weeks notice is tough.

I am not unhappy it is a ToY event, I just wish I would have known that it was even a remote possibility a while back when I was planning the remainder of my contest year.

Not complaining or whining, just expressing my frustration.

The event did apply prior to that date, also the sanctioning was discussed, you must have missed it, it was the topic after the charge and it too was voted on....

I heard it, and I was listening intently. It just seemed like the question was around how much to charge, and not whether or not the contest should be sanctioned or not based on the lead time to the actual contest. Once it was determined how much to charge the conversation went on to talk about whether or not the promoter knew how to update the wiki and once that criteria was satisfied the board went to a vote on it. If the floor had been opened up to members to comment, I would have shared my view.

The rules don't seem to talk to this issue, so there was no reason for the board to deny it based on lead time. The board made the right call based on the current rules and information provided to them. No complaints there at all. I am just expressing my frustration that the current rules can allow an event to be sanctioned a few weeks before the contest. As a member I feel it is not only my right, but my obligation to give my perspective on the issue.

Stoked on the ToY since I wasn't expecting to get any points out of this one. There aren't a ton of points available since it is capped at 30 but some is better than none!

Adam,
FYI, voting for TOY approval does not always have to wait for a Board meeting. The TOY commish can do an online vote for the Board members approval.
Not that this helps in this instance, just sharing some info on the normal process.

That is good to know, thanks Bob.

I know the board knew about this application some time ago, but as a member, last night's meeting was the first I had heard of it.

Again, I am just trying to share my point of view as a team that is in the ToY chase. I could just keep my "mouth" shut, but i am trying to be open an honest with my feelings on this. Most teams won't care. The teams local to the event will be happy to add a contest to earn points (which is great), and most of the teams further way aren't really chasing anything. So, I am in the minority, but I wanted to share my feelings on the matter.

Thanks, Bill!

I'm pretty much in the dark when it comes to how our board works... I really need to start paying more attention...

Alex- I think the board meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of every month.
