new to competing

first time competing looking for any advice for newby. my wife and i are considering not only doing competition but also looking to sell food at event, the menu i would sell would be kids meal (hot dogs) tri-tip sandwiches etc. on a side note read in info no beverages were thinking they mean no alcoholic beverages but not sure. thanks Tom

food you can sell but not drinks I be-leave and have read in the rules we will be there come by friday and say hi .. we will be happy to have a coke/ beer and chat as for food make sure you have lots of it lol last yr was crazy and we all ran out very quick into the day after the comp. turn ins but most of all fallow the rules rule 1 have fun rule 2 if you and checking rule 1 and fallowing it the comp.. will be just that fun ... rule 3 of the pc at no bull states food ok no drinks lol

ok we sold are extra 4 meats for the comp.... also sold rib tip chilli we sold abts = peppers stuffed with stuff lol we sold smoked wild hog links and we ran out of food in about 2 hrs and we could have sold for 3 more hrs just sayin we sold about 1000 samples it was alot of work but very fun

Humdinger, sorry to hear about your loss. Hope the job search is short and productive. My suggestion would be to get certified as a CBJ and attend as many comps as you can. You will learn a lot. The other is to volunteer your time and hands to as many teams in your area. You might just find one that needs help and your costs will be minimal.

If your new to competing may I suggest judging a few events first? It will give you first hand knowledge of what judges are looking for and you can see what other teams are turning in. I've judge a few comps and it's a big difference between the winning teams box and beginners box.
