I had a friend who retired down there on the beach.
The pictures he had were beautiful.
Sounds like a great place to trade bbq for Mexican food!!!

This contest sounds awesome.

Henry, you seem pretty connected. How about you move Rosarito about three hours north so we can make the drive down without killing ourselves?

;-)

Hope everyone has a great time with this one. Maybe next year for us.

Officially-- yes a passport or a passport card (only $45 at Post Office- about 2 weeks to get one) like a DL, only good for land travel between US -Canada and US - Mexico..

Unofficially-- I've been to Baja 12 times this year, 3 times I forgot my passport and only had my DL, I had to answer maybe 1 extra question (like whats my exact address?) all 3 times and had no problem getting back.. A 4th time I left both my wallet and passport (like an idiot) in my car's middle console, had nothing to get back to the US. It took about 5 minutes of going back and forth with the Border patrol lady, but at the end she let me back.. Take it for what is worth.. Be safe and get your passport card/s.. but crossing is not the big deal people make it out to be.

I am going to Guadalajara (3 hr flight from SD) to meet with Jack Daniels and Weber as potential Sponsors + in about a week..

#10)Porketeers- Dennis McGrath- CA

1st 10 teams make this a strong competition already.. Good blend of up and coming studs, proven Vets and rookies so far-- and Bullsheet ad hasn't even hit yet (May).. I need a few more top tier teams (Trigg, Soo, etc..) to make a valid argument to the Jack Daniels people that this should be the West's --auto JACK qualifier.. Keep them entries coming.. Friday -postmarked for Wildomar participants discount.. Saturday $225 early bird until June 1st, 2010.. Then $275 the rest of the way--8/01/10 entry deadline...

By the way- should have really good news on KCBS- TOY contest in November by weeks end. Got a very encouraging e-mail yesterday.

I think the Hotel is taking care of the fireworks.. Big time show planned for Saturday Night, maybe even Friday night as well-- Fish Taco stand about 1/2 a mile from the Hotel, has the best Fish Tacos in the world-- I go (1 1/2 hours) straight down sometimes just to eat 2-4-6 of them, and drive back.. They are awesome, he uses pancake mix - along with other things for his batter...

And Corona, which believe it or not is not as popular south of the border as it is in the USA, is about to become the major sponsor for this event, along with Weber and Jack Daniels... Going to Ensenada tomorrow, I'll eat a couple of Fish tacos on the way.

Henry, you're giving up some interesting info here.
Are you planning an anything-but category?

Just got back from Ensenada.. Man what a day- it started at 7am and just ended at 10:30 pm. Had a nice breakfast in Rosarito - "Ortegas" for $10.50 arguably the best BRUNCH in the World. Then got to Ensenada for the Wine and Seashell annual festival-- 1pm-5pm.. for $25 you can drink (40 wineries) and Eat (seashell-- clams, muscles, scallops, oysters-- lots of oysters, etc,, etc.. ) as much as you want-- talk about a gastronomic feast-- The festival had some 2,000 people - a good mixture of Mexican nationals, ex-pats living in Baja and a bunch of Americans getting off the ship-- wine was great- in fact we got about 10 or so of the wineries to commit to the Rosarito Q.. and 1 chef JAvier, from Baja's best Italian restaurant to hopefully try his BBQ skills at the Q. The temp was 75 = sunny with an occasional breeze, just perfect.

As if this wasn't enough around 3pm 100's of sailboats all of the sudden invaded the Ensenada bay-- Those crazy Americans-- They had a Newport to Ensenada sailboat race.. It was awesome to see..Only part that sucked was walking back across the border, as once again I forgot my passport and used my DL to get across, it took about an hour though- as tourism seems to be once again picking up south of the Border.

Looks like Weber might give us 10+ Smokers and $$$$ as a sponsorship package.. We'll use some of the Weber's for the Smokin Class on Thursday Aug 26th. The others will be made available to teams (not wanting to bring their pits down) for a nominal rental fee, 1st come -1st serve..
