The concept of the 50%/KCBS Championship combo works for me in theory.

However, given the price of gas, the bigger factor will become how far I have to haul stuff if I have to pay a $200 entry fee and lower prize money, so that is why I am trying to figure location before I said, "yeah I would definitely be interested in this contest". 40 miles from Disneyland could be in Pasadena. If you are going to be at the Rose Bowl, then yeah we are definitely interested. But one of the big reasons we were interested in Hesperia was the $75 entry fee and the miles away. We figured that the increased gas money was offset by the lower entry fee, so it was a wash. A higher entry fee then just becomes another factor along with higher gas.

Given that the Taste of Q is now going to be teams collecting cash, I don't know how much interest we will have in that on a going forward basis. We are still discussing that. It just makes it more complicated and we are a small team. If we aren't going to be participating in a Taste of Q and gas prices stay this high or go higher, we will probably be looking at two events a year and we will then pick something like Wishland and either Clovis or more likely Viejas if it still stay around, unless an event is literally just in our back yard.

No, I did not say it was not working, I said we might not have as much interest in doing it.

It will have to be considered on an event by event basis. Collecting cash brings its own set of headaches. I need to have change -- how much? $100, $200?, $300. Probably depends on what I think the crowd will be and how much I think we can sell. Should it all be in one's or maybe one's and 5's? Since most folks at the Autry wanted to pay with $20 bills should I be prepared to break down change for a lot of $20's ? In any event, I need to figure how much change I need and then make a trip to the bank and stand at the teller to get the cash. It isn't hard, it is just another chore to add to the list. Who will watch the cash and collect money and give change? If it is Mom, that leaves just me and Bent to vend and cook and serve. Again, not hard, but just one more layer of planning.

We will just have to think these things through and decide how we feel event by event. It was a no brainer when someone just dropped a ticket in a bowl and then I collected my share.

Thom, I like the ideas you presented (go figure ). I also like the cash for samples which is needed to cover expenses. I think we all just need to come up with some secure way of handling the cash.
