I warned you that it might be a stupid question! You don't realize I'm an old dinosaur that used to compete in Houston and surrounding areas back in the seventies and eighties, before there were all of these sanctioning bodies and fancy equipment. Most of the things I read you folks discussing here I know nothing about - I just know how to cook.
In answer of the question, no. Our pit and trailer we affectionaly call "The Beast", was built completely from scratch with a piece of 30" pipe and a 24-foot 5th wheel trailer frame salvaged from a demolished RV (we did add an additional 3-feet to the frame). Litterally everything on it was fabricatd by hand except the SS counter. I will have the "baby pictures" as my wife calls them, at the Backyard III.
The pit is insulated with 1", 8-lb density mineral wool, and sheeted with .024 stucco embossed aluminum. It has a SS sink and work counter, gravity or pressurized water tank, holding tank, two propane burners for the two #30 cast iron pots, meat slicer, and a stero. It ain't perfect, and I still have to install the light and pernament electrical, but it is a sight to see.
We may never win a single trophy competing against all this high-tech stuff, but we will have a lot of fun, cook a lot of good food, and no one will go away unfed, unwaterd, or unfriended!
