If anyone is interested, the Southern California chapter of the International Dutch Oven Society (IDOS) is having their annual Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG) at Doheny State Beach, near Dana Point Harbor in South Orange County, the weekend of January 19, 20.

This will be my first time attending, but from what I can tell, it's a lot like our Q-Fest.

You can get more info. at their website: www.socaldos.org

Anyone interested in meeting up at this event on Saturday, please PM me.

Glen, I saw one of these on Tv and it looked like a lot of fun. Wish I could make it. But with the bbq crawl, backyard, palm Desert and Q fest. I need to have one weekend off to do my house chores. :p

Let us know how it was.

Hey Joe,

You know I'd normally swing by and pick you up..............

However, that weekend I'll be in Oceanside the morning of the event, and driving up to the event from there with friends.

Hope you can make it anyway.

Hi Glen;

I good friend of mine will be your teacher there at the DOG. His name is Roy Powell, Mike Walker will probably be there with him teaching too. I have had their classes before so be sure to bring your appetite. They sometimes have goodies to give away and a few items for sale. They have a lot of great information to pass on. I know these guys from their hard work with youth groups. Roy also does survival classes too. You'll have a great time. Say Hi from Bruce to them.

Bruce.

On RFD-TV wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm there is a listing for "Dutch Oven and Camp Cooking" repeating at 11:00 PM.

Another show called Cowboy Flavor airs at 2:00 AM thursday repeating at 3:30 PM on friday.

Cowboy Flavor is about cooking with dutch ovens and a picture on the web site shows that the Coyboy has a handlebar mustache that is about 18" across.

Looks like I'll be meeting Joe Miles there in the morning for the basic dutch oven cooking class and the sourdough biscuit class.

Should be a blast.......

Looking forward to meeting some of these Foodies that cook in cast iron.

This was fun.......Met some nice folks. Everyone was very friendly and willing to share information.

I attended the Dutch Oven Basics class and the Sourdough Bread class with Joe Miles. Also ran into Bill Freiberger.

Got some nice goodies and handouts. The guy who taught the bread class even handed out a cup size plastic container of sourdough starter to everyone. We ate sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls during the class. Both were awesome.

I didn't get to stay for the potluck lunch, but I did get a chance to walk around and see some of the dishes people were cooking. All I can say is WOW !!!

Joe stayed, so maybe he'll post something about the lunch.

They have a National event in October, and said they were expecting about 2,000 people from all over the country.

I was told the campground donates the facilities for the event. It's right on the beach in Dana Point. Campground is adjacent to the cooking area. Bathrooms, Showers, Tables, ETC. all right there. Seems like it would be a great location for a BBQ event, or maybe a fall Q-Fest. I'm sure it's booked up all summer.

They said Oct. 8th was a possible date, and should have it confirmed in a couple of weeks.

Yeah Roy and Mike are awesome people. Really into D.O. cooking. Fun people to be around. Very positive and upbeat people. They both work hard for Boy/Girl Scouts. Very generous with their time to various youth groups. I am working with them on a boy scout camp o ree. There is always a Dutch Oven Dessert cook off. Maybe some of you would like to judge? If its ok with Roy and Mike.

Bruce,

Definitely keep us posted..........

Would also like to attend more events, and maybe even take a class.

BTW: I'm feeding my starter, and waiting for it to double in size so I can try the sourdough bread from the recipe we got. Should be another couple of weeks.

This is worse than watching grass grow <_<
