Southwest International BBQ Cookoff will be Nov 9-10 in Phoenix area. This event involves two concurrent contests, one KCBS and one IBCA sanctioned. Both contests will be recognized as CBBQA ToY Qualifiers. Winners in each contest will receive ToY points.

The Technologically minded have ever been ready to obey one who wields great power. Those who learned the powers of the dark side were quick to exploit this techonology—to make War on Evil Stick Burners. Again and again the dark side has surged forth, like a storm…devouring whole backyards and entire BBQ Competitions. Those who mastered The Dark power became The Dark power. They unleashed destruction, for no other reason to anger the Evil Stick Burners. They despoiled Eggheads…destroyed whole groups of WSM civilizations, and crushed the Elitist charcoal burners. Some of them, I am ashamed to say, have returned to the Evil Stick burner."

Just a CYA...You better determine how you are going to get the top ten finishes in a scantioning body that does not go out 10 places. Has anyone decide how you are going to get the top 10 for the IBCA? Or have the promoters already addressed this?

Thank you Michael for your reply, looks like a team will have to hustle on this schedule.

Can you direct me to a IBCA website that I can download the rules, the link on your site dosen't allow me to read the font in which it is formated in (?).

I've looked on this site and can't find them.

Thom,

Thanks for the link.

Why not pull off a dual santioned event in Clovis or Vejias?

Invite me? You are the IBCA?

San Jose will be a year away, that's a possibility for sure...why not?

So when you have approached the Clovis & Vejias promoters they have turned you down?

Don't mean to sound like a downer, but unless Thom or some other IBCA rep has contest money in their pocket, why would the promoter of Clovis or Veijas or any other contest be interested in inviting them?

As the promoter, you don't just get double money automatically from your sponsors because you have a double contest going. And I sure would not like to see the Clovis money split in half in order to say we have two contests going on at the same time. And since Thom isn't the promoter of either competition, what incentive does he have to raise money for either event?

Hosting a Dual Sanctioned event certainly has it's advantages as well as it's challenges.

There is a reason it has only been done 3 times before and no contest in the country does it on an Annual Basis. We are hoping to make our November one a Dual Sanctioned event for years to come.

Some of the benefits as we see them are:

2 Contests at the same time which saves costs on travel, meats, infrastructure, etc.

Comparing the results of both sanctioning bodies and seeing how similar or different they are.

The ability to win double the money due to the seperate contests.

Some of the Challenges we have seen are:

Finding enough judges

Turn in Times are so close and contestants will be hustling

Getting both the prize funds covered by our sponsors and supporters

Time alloted for awards ceremony

Just and FYI, Our official web site for the contest will be updated and relaunched this week and we will have all the links worked out.

Thanks,

Mike
