Does anyone know anything about the "King of the Smoker" invitational contest in Coachella this December? I saw it was approved in the KCBS Board Meeting minutes. First I heard of it.

Looks like it might be the same weekend as our Veterans Holiday Celebration cook though, which is too bad.

On Edit: Actually, the Veterans Holiday Celebration is the Sunday before, 12/2/12.

Thanks,
Bill

Ok here are a few more details..First off let me say that Sterling has worked very hard on putting together a first class event..some good cooks will be left out as he only has room for 24 teams but there will be some of Ca's best in attendance along with the top names in BBQ today..this event will be open to the public and he wants to put on the best show possible..here are some of the details

La Quinta Resort December 7th(La Quinta,Ca)
Invitation only(24 teams)
No entry fee
No garnish
Meat provided
No stoker, pellets, guru or any other assisted device(wood or charcoal only)
50,000 payout
Each team gets an event ez-up to keep
Each team will get their own casita at the resort
Dinner from a James Beard winning Chef
Each team is encouraged to interact with the public as much as possible

Team list will be fully released soon.

Sterling and BPS have really taken this event to the top, huge congrats to them, and thanks for taking the sport to the next level. I know that the teams invited are truly the best of the best, and I wish them all the best of luck! We will be there to support them!!!!

You needed at least 2 GC's to be invited and be top 50 in KCBS points..as far as judging I'm pretty sure it's all master cbj's

Guys I'm sorry I gave out a little bit of misinformation and I want to correct it..you don't have to be top 50 KCBS nor do you have to be a master cbj..I really don't know how the judges are going to be picked..it was something that was discussed in passing between us when this was in the planning stages..so sorry i'll put my foot in my mouth.

This event seems to be in conflict with the Vista Antique Gas Engine event that was approved by KCBS.

No worries Marcel, I am working with the KCBS folks to move my event, thus allowing all the teams at the Poppa's competition series a chance to compete, and not be passed by some of the teams coming to Vista-- If approved Dec 15th.. will be the date-- It will also be The Last Event of the KCBS TOY Race for 2012, and one that again (like last year) play a big role on the top 25 teams in all 4 categories and in the overall standings for 2012.
