Since last summer I've been working with the Sacramento Kings to put on a KCBS contest at Sleep Train Arena. The main attraction of this competition is that we're going to award the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion trophies during halftime of a Kings game. All competition teams will be invited to be on the court with their team names announced. 1st through 5th in each of the meat categories will be awarded outside the arena and winners will be listed on the big screens. I have 10 teams who have shown interest and hope a lot more want to participate. Only 15 teams need to participate in a first year contest on the Professional level to be a Jack and American Royal qualifier.

However, recent events, specifically their possible move to Seattle, has put this event in jeopardy. I'm expecting a phone call from them tomorrow regarding signing a contract with me so I can ensure this event will happen as planned regardless of where the team plays next year.

Additionally, I put in for a date change with KCBS to make this a Saturday/Sunday competition to coincide with a Kings Home Game but haven't heard back from them.

If you haven't already sent me an email and are interested in competing or judging, please reply to this topic or send me an email at info@kingsoftheque.com.

Thanks!
Ed

Do what you can Ed. Butcher's Daughter would love to join in this really unique event. BTW, how do you even come up with this idea? Wish it were with the Warriors!

WOW!! What a fantastic response! A huge thank you to all teams who've responded so quickly and in such great numbers. Donna is so right that this is quite the list that is developing. I'll give you an update tomorrow. Yahoo!

We are a Go!!!! Yahoo!!

I have a list of 24 teams interested in competing at this event. I paid the TOY fee last night only to realize the BOD meeting was the night before so I guess I can say that I'm awaiting approval.

This is a very unique event where I do not have the ability to have craft and food vendors to offset costs so it looks like the prize pool will be a little small for this event. I've negotiated to get some Kings Autographed Memorabilia to give along with the cash to offset the lower prize pool.

Here's the Pro Division Application. Attached File  2013 Kings of the Que BBQ Championship_Pro Team Application.pdf   27.18K   179 downloads

Keep an eye out for more updates soon.

Thanks!
Ed
