I have great news to announce regarding the 2013 RubStock BBQ Championship.

The Great American BBQ Tour has chosen RubStock out of over 400 sanctioned KCBS competitions to be one of 23 stops on their tour to spread the word about true BBQ. The GABT annually stops at notable competitions including the American Royal BBQ Championship in Kansas City, MO, the Jack Daniels World Invitational BBQ Championship in Lynchburg, TN, the Best in the West BBQ Rib Cook-off in Sparks, NV and the Memphis in May World Championship BBQ Contest in Memphis, TN so it is quite an honor to have them come to our competition in Northern California.

I met the married couple who run all all over North America with the GABT trailer, Mike and Christine Peters, at the Best of the West in Sparks, NV and they are great ambassadors for the BBQ world. They truly enhance the spectator experience by providing cooking demonstrations using some of the basic techniques used by competition teams and, needless to say, tasty food samplings. Sponsors of the 2012 tour included Weber Sauces and Seasonings, Resers Fine Foods, Castlewood Reserve, Smithfield, Big Green Egg and Thermoworks.

I can't tell you how excited I am by our selection from such a prestigious BBQ partner as the Great American BBQ Tour.

Thanks so much to Smitty for getting this event on the CBBQA Calendar and starting this topic.

I have more fantastic news to announce about the 2013 RubStock BBQ Championship.

In addition to being one of 20 stops for the 2013 Great American BBQ Tour, RubStock has also been chosen as one of only six competitions across the US to hold the 2013 Reser's America's Best Potato Salad Challenge. The first place winner of our event receives $1,000 and a $1,000 travel voucher to compete in the finals for a chance to win $10,000 at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in November 2013. That's right, $10,000!!

Start working on your potato salad recipe to increase your chances to win this special ancillary event. I'll have more details and the contest rules out once the Kings of the Que BBQ Championship in Woodland has been held.

I told a lot of you that I haven't been sitting still during the past 12 months and my efforts have paid off big time. Yahoo!!!

I’m Back!!!!

I’m pleased to announce that all contracts have been signed and the location for the 1st Annual Rubstock BBQ Championship has been finalized. The location of Christa McAuliffe Park in Cameron Park will provide all participants with easy access to your space and spectators with expanded parking.

Rubstock has been chosen to be one of only 22 stops across the US and Canada for the Great American BBQ Tour and one of only six contests to hold the Reser’s America’s Best Potato Salad Challenge. These two national sponsors will bring extra media attention to our event.

I’m also working on several additional activities to keep the teams and spectators engaged, including the possibility of a classic car show on Friday evening. I will surely bring back the two KotQ events that the teams seemed to enjoy, the cooking challenge a la Iron Chef style and the tri-tip challenge. I also plan on having more of a spectator event for Friday evening including live music and a beer garden. Activities planned for Saturday include a skating exhibition at the skate park located right in Christa McAuliffe Park.

The Rubstock website is alive! Pro Division, Backyard Division and CBJ applications have been posted on both the CBBQA Rubstock Wiki page and on www.rubstock.com. KotQ Teams and CBJ’s will receive forms via email later this week.

You may notice that Rubstock is being produced by Big Bull BBQ Events and Productions. This is one of the reasons why I’ve been absent until now as I was required to setup a new company to separate the competition funds from my restaurant funds.

Guaranteed Payout is currently at $5000, however will increase as we hit a specific number of teams paid, starting at 25 teams.

Let me know if you are signing up to have a groovin’ time in Cameron Park.

I just updated the list of teams and we're up to 13 Pro Division and 2 Backyard Division Teams signed up for Rubstock! Thanks for the following teams for your support: Smitty's Smoke Patrol, Burnt Offerings, Porktera BBQ, Here Piggy Piggy BBQ, Pigs Can Fly BBQ, Too Ashamed To Name BBQ, Rub Lovers, Smokey Luv BBQ, Son of Smoke, Crime Scene, Smokin' The Bandit BBQ, Meat Hu$tle BBQ, Hound Dog Barbecue, Hot Link & Chorizo and Pork Daddy's BBQ.

Great news from the El Dorado County Environmental Health Department! We are a go for having a People's Choice event for Rubstock with all participating Pro Division teams being covered under my blanket Temporary Food Facility Permit. That's right, you don't need to purchase your own TFF Permit, unless you want to sell more than 2 oz servings of Tri Tip, Pulled Pork, Brisket, Chicken and single rib samples. Since I'm creating a spectator experience for Friday evening, I'd like to have a People's Choice event in the early evening with Tri Tip, if enough teams want to participate. We'll have the normal People's Choice with the four competition meats on Saturday.

Since the announcement of the People's Choice event came after the last day for the Early Bird Entry Fee, I'm going to extend the discount until August 7th. Take advantage of the discounted fee and join us for a groovin' time in the foothills.

I don't know if you noticed on the wiki page but we have a team from Nixa, Missouri competing at Rubstock!

Mike Peters of the Great American BBQ Tour is also the Pitmaster for Pro Division Team, Here Piggy Piggy BBQ. Mike told me the last time he competed in California he won Grand Champion and he's confident that his flavor profiles will win over the judges at Rubstock too.

Well if that isn't a challenge, then I guess I don't know what one is!!! Want to know how you stack up against an award winning team from the BBQ Belt? Then get off your pork butt, fill out your entry form and mail it in with your entry fee!!!!

Yep, Mike and Chris Peters took GC at the Konocti casino in Lakeport in 2011. It was their first GC ever.
