I'm helping out the city of Ontario's Park and Recreational department with their 3rd Annual Best Backyard BBQ contest. Hosted at the South Bonview park in Ontario. Team Entry is only $25 and we will have all CBJ's judging and providing live feedback for the teams. Scoring will be KCBS based. Nice little contest to find out exactly if the CBJs like your flavor profile or not. You can get more info about the event here http://www.socalmeat...om/index-1.htmlPosted Image

It kills me that every year there is something like this in LA, I can't go and help out. I have a scheduling conflict that keeps me from this. Maybe one of these days. It looks like a great opportunity to learn on so many levels. Best of luck on this and have fun!

Right now we have 3 and 1 maybe. Hoping to get at least 10 teams. It's great for teams that are new to KCBS want to sharpen their skills. 2 of the 3 teams have competed before with marginal success so hearing why you got a 6 directly from the CBJ who gave the 6 will probably be invaluable.

Great, would you be willing to help out a team with tips and or questions during their cook? Basically just mentor them and provide advice as they are getting ready for turn ins etc. I have a few other teams that are working with the new guys which really helps get them ready for an actual KCBS comp.

Ok not a problem. Anything you can do to show support to the rookies will be greatly appreciated.

Just got another team confirmation. Big D's BBQ from Aromas, CA. This is a new team looking to get into KBCS events next year and wants to make a run for ROY. Jerry has graciously offered to mentor the team during the cook and they are thrilled.

Thanks for helping out Jerry and passing the torch!

Scott with Green Card Que is in the Race and will be mentored by Andy Soto! Since it's a CBJ looking to start cooking I think he has a great chance of winning it!

I dropped the check in the mail tonight to Johnny, so All About The Q is in for sure. (Still need to get with him about the zoo though) Added a third team member, an aspiring chef, to help with the "anything butt", and thanks for setting us up with Andy Allen as our mentor!!!

Wow this is getting to really become a heated battle, I believe we may also have 2 teams that have cooked one or 2 KCBS comps already looking to improve their scores. Can one of the "mentored" teams give them a run for their money???

PATLANS APPLE WOOD BBQ is in the house and will be cooking the event! Although They have cooked a couple of events already it's a good way to get feedback from the and they are not letting the opportunity pass them by!

Patlan's took 3rd in Ribs at Santa Anita (2012) out of 39 top level teams. This is shaping up to be quite the competition ...
